The certificate is taken from the transcription that was made at the time of the event, and goes onto be the details that all other certificates are issued from. I'm assuming that all the other details (place of birth, name, mothers’ maiden name) are correct. As such, if the name is mis-spelt, this is the official record, and not an error of our making. It's not that the certificate has the 'wrong' details. The certificate has the 'right' details, but the original entry is 'wrong' - meaning an error was made at the time that the record was made. It is something that happens - not frequently, but unfortunately more frequently than it should. It's not an error on our part, but on the person who recorded your birth.
